The difference of two positive numbers is 51. The quotient when one integer is divided by the other is 4. Find the two integers.

Answer:

x = -17

y = -68

Explanation:

x - y = 51

y/x = 4 so we can say that y = 4x

using substitution:

x - 4x = 51

-3x = 51

x = -17

find 'y':

-17 - y = 51

-y = 68

y = -68

check:

-17 - (-68) = 51

51 = 51

-68/-17 = 4

4 = 4
