The median player salary for the New York Yankees was $1.5 million in 2007 and $1.7 million in 2013. Write a linear equation giving the median salary y in terms of the year x. (Let y be in millions of dollars and let

x = 7
represent 2007.)

Answer:

y = 0.04x + 3.3

Explanation:

[linear equation: y = kx + m]

point 1: (7, 1.5)

point 2: (13, 1.7)

k = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

y2 - y1 = 0.2

x2 - x1 = 6

0.2 ÷ 5 = 0.04

k = 0.04

Now take one of the points as an example to solve m.

1.7 = 0.04 * 13 + m

1.7 = 0,52 + m

3.269 = m \\ m = 3.269 = 3.3

Now we have both variables.
