I have conducted experiments to study specific adsorption of chromium in various soils and I made my all solutions of cr with using 0.01M NaNO₃ as background electrolyte. (I made solutions of 5 different ppm concentrations) So now for calibration of the AAS instrument should I prepare standards using only distilled water or my background solution( electrolyte).

Final answer:

You should prepare standards for the AAS instrument using distilled water instead of the background electrolyte.

Step-by-step explanation:

For calibration of the AAS instrument, you should prepare standards using only distilled water rather than the background electrolyte.

The reason for this is that the background electrolyte (0.01M NaNO₃) may contain other ions that could interfere with the analysis of chromium.

By using distilled water as the solvent for the standards, you can ensure that only chromium ions are present and accurately determine the concentration of chromium in your samples.
