This is an excerpt from Amanda Gorman's poem "The Hill We Climb". It was the Inaugural poem for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' Inauguration.

These days so many people wait for change and for things to get better. They are always looking to people other than themselves to be be the change they want to see.

The statement means that there is always light, there is always hope for change and for things to get better. It says that all hope is not lost but we have to be brave enough to see it. And we also have to brave enough to be that light, to give hope and to spread change. It all begins with you and I.

I came to believe this idea because if we look around and try to identify something good, we would see that it started with just one person. And that is how light spreads. If we share light to others, they in turn share it to others.

So, whatever change we want to see has to begin with us. There is always light, change and hope if only we see it and be it.
