I am looking to use a large stir bar, on the order of 100mm, that is not coated with any Teflon or PTFE. This is because my application is measuring PTFE in water and a stir bar can effect the results. I cannot seem to find one over 38mm. I would be willing to use any other material than PTFE/Teflon.

Final answer:

You are seeking a non-PTFE coated stir bar for your experiments measuring PTFE in water. Options for alternative materials include stainless steel, glass, and ceramic. You may need to contact suppliers for custom sizes to meet your requirements.

Step-by-step explanation:

You are looking for a stir bar that is not coated with PTFE or Teflon due to the interference it may cause in measuring PTFE levels in water. As PTFE, known by the brand name Teflon made by Chemours (a DuPont spin-off), is a synthetic fluoropolymer with exceptional chemical resistance and non-stick qualities, it's typically used to coat stir bars.

Since PTFE stir bars are unsuitable for your application, you need an alternative material. Stainless steel, glass, or ceramic could be potential options as they are chemically inert for the most part and are not coated with PTFE. While finding a stir bar that is 100mm in size may be challenging, you could contact manufacturers or suppliers directly to inquire about custom sizes. Keep in mind that the chosen material should be resistant to any possible corrosion by the solutions it will encounter, in addition to the size requirement.
