5 quarters = $1.25

7 dimes = $0.70

7 + 5 = 12

.25q + .10d = 1.95

d = 12-q

substitute

.25q + .10(12 -q) =1.95

.25q + 1.2 - .1q = 1.95

q = 5. quarters

d + 5 = 12
