The values of x and y are : 2.25 and 1.125 respectively .

The values of x and y are : 15 and 4 respectively

From the diagram, we can create a proportional expression thus ;

  • x = 6
  • 1.5 = 4

cross multiply ;

4x = 1.5 * 6

4x = 9

x = 9/4

x = 2¼

To find y :

1.5 = 4

y = 3

cross multiply

4y = 1.5 * 3

4y = 4.5

y = 4.5 /4

y = 1.125

Hence, the values of x and y are : 2.25 and 1.125 respectively.

B.)

Using the relationship;

12 = 18

y = 6

cross multiply

18y = 12 * 6

18y = 72

y = 72/18

y = 4

For x ;

x = 18

5 = 6

6x = 90

x = 90/6

x = 15

Hence, the values of x and y are : 15 and 4 respectively
