You have $110 in your savings account and your friend has $65 in her

savings account. You deposit $5 each month into your account and
your friend deposits $10 each month into her account. In how many
months will both savings accounts have the same amount of money?

Answer:

At 9 months the accounts will be equal.

Explanation:

y = the amount in your account

x = number of months

y = 5x + 10 The equation for your account

y = 10x + 65 The equation for your friend's account.

Set these equal to each other and solve for x

5x + 110 = 10x + 65 Subtract 5x from both sides

110 = 5x + 65 Subtract 65 from both sides

45 = 5x Divide both sides by 5

9 = x
