"After being state champions for four years, the basketball team finally met their Waterloo." where does this allusion come from? what does this allusion mean?

An allusion is a reference to something in the past, could be history or an existing story. The Battle of Waterloo was a decisive battle in which Napoleon and his army lost, so the allusion to Waterloo is saying that finally the basketball team loses decisively.
