A coffee mixture has beans that sell for $0.72 a pound and beans that sell for $0.52. If 110 pounds of beans create a mixture worth $0.74 a pound, how much of each bean is used? In two or more sentences explain weather you solution is or is not reasonable.

Let x be the number of pounds of one type in the 110 pound mixture, then number of pounds of the other beans = 110 - x pounds.

Cost of the 110 pounds = 110 * 0.74 = $81.40.

So 0.72x + 0.52(110 - x) = 81.40

0.72z - 0.52x = 81.40 - 57.20

0.20x = 24.20

x = 121 pounds,

Now the weight of the mixture is 110 pounds so its not possible to have 121 pounds of one type of bean., so this solution is not reasonable.

The original values in the question are not possible.
