The Sound Engineer is responsible for managing the technical aspects of sound in a production, including microphone setup, sound levels, recording, overdubbing, and mixing.
The individual responsible for setting up microphones, getting proper levels to tape, making sure everything sounds good, and handling recording, overdubbing, and mixing the recording is typically referred to as the Sound Engineer. The sound engineer works closely with the music producer, recording artist, and studio technician to ensure the highest quality of the audio recording. Their role encompasses selecting appropriate body microphones or wireless microphones, making delicate decisions to ensure that the sounds are accurate, and consistent with the overall design and concept of the production. The sound engineer is also part of a larger creative and technical team which includes, but is not limited to, the lighting designer, master electrician, light board operator, sound board operator, and others who contribute to the successful auditory experience of a production.
