The Lottery (in our perception) usually improves our life somehow, in which we get some kind of reward; however in this story, the 'winner' of the lottery gets stoned to death. Since the opposite of what is said ('the lottery') is meant. What literary device is this?

Final answer:

The literary device used in this story is irony.

Step-by-step explanation:

The literary device used in this story is irony. Irony occurs when there is a contrast between what is expected and what actually happens. In this case, the reader expects the winner of the lottery to receive a reward, but instead, they are stoned to death. This creates a sense of surprise and shock.
