Shena was in school Sunlight shone on the braided rug in the family room, making a perfect circle of light and warmth. Maisie, the dog padded
slowly across the rug and found a cozy spot in the sunlight. She settled down with a contented sigh. She was half asleep when Hatha, the cat.
stalked into the room and slowly curled up around Maisie. Maisie opened one eye lazily, and then settled back into her nap. Hatha lay down. licked
a front paw slowly and carefully, and then began to drift off to sleep. The minutes passed slowly by. Nothing moved. Even the street outside was
quiet and empty. The only sound that entered the house was a faint buzzing noise from time to time, when a bee landed on the roses outside the
open window. A gentle breeze carried the sweet scent of the roses into the room.
