A boat moves at a rate of 10 mph in still water. If the river's current flows at a rate of 2 mph, how long does it take the boat to travel 20 miles upstream?

Answer:

Explanation:

(10 - 2) total / t = 20

8 t = 20

t = 20 / 8 hrs or 2.6 hrs

By the way if it is moving upstream it would be 10 - 2 but if downstream it would be 10 + 2. I'm just assuming it's upstream.
