What is emission spectrum
An excited atom or molecule going through a transition to a lower energy state will emit a distinct pattern of light frequencies known as an emission spectrum. This "fingerprint" indicates which components are in a material. Depending on the energy differential between the levels, excited electrons return to their ground state and release energy in the form of light at particular frequencies.
