We just have to distribute the 4 throughout the rest of the problem. So, (4 times x) + (4 times 3) = 4x + 12

#2: -7(4 - y)

This is the same concept, but with a negative sign at the front. So, (-7 times 4) - (-7 times y) = -28 + 7y
