What is the solution to the system of equations

y= 2x – 1
y = -x +5

Explanation:

1. Equate eq.1 n eq.2

hence 2x-1 = -x + 5

2x + x = 5 + 1 ( sign changes from -ve to +ve or +ve to -ve when we change sides ie. shifting something from LHS to RHS or vice-versa)

3x = 6

x = 6/3

x = 2

substitute the value of x in eq.1 or eq.2 to get y

substituting in eq.1

y = 2x -1

y = 2(2) - 1

y = 4 - 1

y = 3

hence coordinates are (x,y) = (2,3)
