Explanation:

we will recognize better what's going on, when we describe the inequality better.

2y - x > 1

2y > x + 1

y > (x + 1)/2

that is the line in the graphic (when we replace ">" by "=").

all valid solutions are now points, for which the y-value is larger than the given line. that means the whole area above the line (above- left).

because ">" was used (instead of ">="), the line itself is NOT part of the solution (and colored) area.

Answer:

Explanation:

To graph the inequality 2y - x > 1, begin by rewriting the inequality in slope-intercept form by isolating y:

\begin{aligned}2y-x& > 1\\\\2y& > x+1\\\\y& > (1)/(2)x+(1)/(2)\end{aligned}

Since the inequality sign is ">", the boundary line is dashed to indicate that the points on the line are not included in the solution set.

Substitute x = 3 and x = 7 into the boundary line equation to find two points on the line:

x=3 \implies y=(1)/(2)(3)+(1)/(2)=2

x=7 \implies y=(1)/(2)(7)+(1)/(2)=4

Plot the points (3, 2) and (7, 4) and draw a dashed line through them.

Finally, as y is greater than (1/2)x + 1/2, shade above the dashed line.
