A brown mouse has one-quarter the number of

pieces of cheese as a grey mouse. After the
brown mouse took 12 pieces from the grey
mouse, and the grey mouse ate 6 of her
remining pieces of cheese, they each have the same number of pieces of cheese. How
many pieces did the grey mouse have initially?

Answer: 40

Explanation:

A brown mouse has onequarter the number of

pieces of cheese as a grey mouse. After the brown

mouse took 12 pieces from the grey mouse, and the grey mouse

ate 6 of her remining pieces of cheese, they each have the same

number of pieces of cheese. How many pieces did the grey

mouse have initially?

x= grey mouse 1/4x = brown mouse

1/4x - 18 = x +12

3/4x = 30

(4/3)3/4x=30(4/3)

x=40
