Given the 2 equations

y = 3x - 1 → (1)

2x + 4y = 24 → (2)

Substitute y = 3x - 1 into (2)

2x + 4(3x - 1) = 24 ← distribute and simplify left side

2x + 12x - 4 = 24

14x - 4 = 24 ( add 4 to both sides )

14x = 28 ( divide both sides by 14 )

x = 2

Substitute x = 2 into (1) for corresponding value of y

y = 3(2) - 1 = 6 - 1 = 5

solution is (2, 5 )
