Answer:

  1. Racket = $7.29
  2. Squash ball = $2.35

Explanation:

Let's take it as,

→ Racket = x

→ Squash ball = y

The equations are,

→ 2x + 3y = 21.63

→ 5x + 7y = 52.9

Forming the equation for y,

→ 5x + 7y = 52.9

→ 7y = 52.9 - 5x

→ y = (52.9 - 5x)/7

Now the value of x will be,

→ 2x + 3y = 21.63

→ 2x + 3((52.9 - 5x)/7) = 21.63

→ (14x/7) + (158.7 - 15x)/7 = 21.63

→ 14x + 158.7 - 15x = 21.63 × 7

→ -x = 151.41 - 158.7

→ [ x = 7.29 ]

Then the value of y will be,

→ y = (52.9 - 5x)/7

→ y = (52.9 - 5(7.29))/7

→ y = (52.9 - 36.45)/7

→ y = 16.45/7

→ [ y = 2.35 ]

Hence, the value of y is $2.35.
