Explanation:

4 (3 + x)

= 4 * 3 + 4 * x

= 12 + 4x

(3 + 3 + 3 + 3) + (x + x + x + x)

= 4 * 3 + 4 * x

= 12 + 4x

Therefore, 4(3+x) is equal to (3+3+3+3) + (x+x+x+x).
