Why does it only take one person to make a change?

I think the real meaning of this phrase is that any of us can make very significant changes in our own lives and others. Extreme examples of this would include Jonas Salk's polio vaccine, or Einstein's relativity theory. Most of us obviously won't reach this level, but we can still accomplish far more than we realize.
