first off, let's notice the LCD of all denominators will be hmmmm 4, so let's use that to do away with the denominators

x-\cfrac{1}{4}=\cfrac{1}{2}\implies \stackrel{\textit{multiplying both sides by }\stackrel{LCD}{4}}{4\left( x-\cfrac{1}{4} \right)=4\left( \cfrac{1}{2} \right)}\implies 4x-1=2 \\\\\\ 4x=3\implies x=\cfrac{3}{4}
