Relationship between Lewis structures and polarity
Lewis structures show the relationships and electron sharing between atoms in molecules. By analyzing these structures in conjunction with electronegativity and geometry, we are able to ascertain a molecule's polarity, or uneven distribution of charges.
Nonpolar molecules lack an overall charge because of symmetry, whereas polar molecules have a positive and negative end. Chemical reactions, physical characteristics, and intermolecular forces can all be better understood in light of polarity.
