On saturday ajani sold 2 dozen donuts for every 5 dozen cookies. if he sold a total of 84 dozen itmes, how many dozen were donuts?

Answer:

24 = no. of dozens of donuts

60 = no. of dozens of cookies

Explanation:

The ratio of no. of dozens of donuts to no. of dozens of cookies is 2 to 5

Let 2x = no. of dozens of donuts

and 5x = no. of dozens of cookies

Then 2x + 5x = 84

7x = 84

x = 12

So, 2x = 2(12) = 24 = no. of dozens of donuts

and 5x = 5(12) = 60 = no. of dozens of cookies

Check: 24/60 = 2/5 and 24 + 60 = 84
