Answer:

-2 + √(4 - 12k) + (-2) - √(4 - 12k) = -4

(-2 + √(4 - 12k))(-2 - √(4 - 12k)) = 4 - (4 - 12k)

= 12k

12k = -4, so k = -1/3.
