spaces were not treated very well some were separated from there families and other lives one to be sold or trained to other farms. they lived in very bad living conditions and some were even beaten or whipped by their slave owners. slaves would get together and sing and they were the o my things that made them happy. They did it get paid at all for any of the hard work they did from sunrise to sunset and were given leftovers or little food at all. If a dove ran away they could be captured by someone else who saw them and severely punished by beating them and whipping them some were even branded and got limbs cut off like a few toes so they could run away again.

Answer:

Others were carried back in chains after their capture by lawmen or professional slave catchers. The punishments these slaves faced upon their return varied from verbal abuse to beatings, sale to another master, and even death.
