4. Li, an ECG technician, has tried to explain to her elderly male patient that an ECG will not

send harmful electricity through his body. The patient flatly refuses to believe her, and he
will not allow her to perform the ECG. Li reports this to her supervisor, who asks Michel,
another ECG technician on staff, to explain the procedure to the patient. When Michel
approaches the patient, the patient says, "That other technician doesn't know what she is
talking about!" In an attempt to calm the patient, Michel answers, "Yes, I agree. She has a
reputation for that." The patient finally agrees to allow the ECG to be performed.

Keeping ethics consistent in the medical field is crucial, though saying that may have made the patient feel better. Doctors and nurses will have to deal with unethical patients at times and that is ok. The job as a doctor is to get the patient healthy.
