Supercompensation is a concept primarily associated with sports training and exercise physiology. It refers to the body's ability to adapt and improve performance in response to training stimuli.
The first phase involves subjecting the body to a training stimulus, such as physical exercise. This stimulus causes fatigue, depletes energy stores, and may lead to muscle damage.
Following the training stimulus, the body enters a recovery phase during which it repairs and adapts to the stress imposed during the training. Adequate rest, nutrition, and sleep are crucial during this phase.
After recovery, the body not only returns to its baseline state but undergoes a temporary enhancement in performance capabilities. This period of heightened readiness is known as supercompensation. The body overcompensates for the previous stress by increasing its fitness level, energy stores, and overall resilience.
