Answer:

From Our Immigrants at Ellis Island by Mrs. Francis E. Clark

Carmelita’s family lives in Italy, her father leaves to go to America because he heard that they make a lot of money, soon he found a job and started making money, later he had saved enough money to get them a ticket to America.

Example(s) from passage: Carmelita’s word choice was both positive and negative: "Our home was in Naples in the South of Italy. It is so beautiful there! The connotations would start positive and then change when we find out that her family is poor then change again.

Example(s) from passage: Hopeful: “We loved our dear sunny Italy so much! ”

Example(s) from passage: her sentences are short but long, you can tell that she is from Italy because of her accent:

“I learn a little, and the American lady that mother wash for, she teacha me the English.”

Carmelita has a hopeful attitude because she knows that her father will find a job to provide for their family.

Hope this helps!
