The values of x and y are 15 and 36 respectively.

Similar triangles have thesame corresponding angles and the ratio of their corresponding sides are equal.

To find the values of x and y , we use the similarity theorem;

5+x/x = 24/18

18(5+x) = 24x

90 + 18x = 24x

collect like terms

90 = 24x - 18x

6x = 90

divide both sides by 6

x = 90/6

x = 15

To find y

12+y)/12= 20/5

60 + 5y = 240

5y = 180

y = 36

Therefore the values of x and y are 15 and 36 respectively.
