The ratio of the corresponding sides are given as follows:

FG/CD = EG/ED

where:

FG = 3

CD = 6

EG = X

ED = 5+X

That is:

3/6 = X/5+X

3(5+X) = 6x

15+3x = 6x

15 = 3x

X= 15/3 = 5
