The solution of the given equation x = -6 and y = -4

Combine the equations

8x - 8y = -16 __________(1)

-2x + 6y = -12 __________(2)

From equation 1

8x - 8y = -16

8x = -16 +8y

Divide both side by 8 we get

x = -2 + 4y __________(3)

Put these value of x in the equation 2

-2x + 6y = -12

-2(-2 + 4y) + 6y = -12

4 - 8y + 6y = -12

4 - 2y = -12

-2y = -12 +4

2y = - 8

Dividing both side by 2 we get

y = -4

Put these value of y in equation 1 we get

- 8x - 8(-4) = -16

- 8x = 16 + 32

- 8x = 48

Divied both side by 8 we get

x = - 6
