Answer:

x= price of a bag of chips

x+1.25 = price of a hot dog

2(x+1.25)-3.5 = 2x+2.5-3.5 = 2x-1=price of a soft drink

A customer buys 2 hot dogs = 2(2x-1)= 4x-2

2 bags of potato chips = 2x

4 soft drinks =4(2x-1)=4x-4

expenditure for these items: $13.5

we solve the equation

4x-2+2x+4x-4=13.5

10x-6=13.5

10x=13.5+6

10x=19.5

x= 1.95

x= price of a bag of potato chips =$1.95

x+1.25 = price of a hot dog = $3.2

2(x+1.25)-3.5 = 2x+2.5-3.5 = 2x-1=price of a soft drink = $2.9
