Answer:

y=-2x-1

Explanation:

To find the equation of the line find this equation y=mx+b. Find the slope(m) and the intercept(b).

First find the slope of the line. To do this calculate rise over run, or
(y_(2) -y_(1))/(x_(2)-x_(1))

Point 1 is (-1,1), point 2 is (-3,5)

So to find the slope calculate (5-1)/(-3-(-1))

Simplify

4/(-3+1)

4/-2

-2

The slope is -2, so the equation of the line is y=-2x+b

Put one of the points in for x and y then solve for b.

Using (-1,1), you get 1=-2(-1)+b

Solve

1=-2(-1)+b

1=2+b

1-2=b

-1=b

Now to write the final equation

y=-2x-1

Answer:

y = -2x - 1

Explanation:

(-1, 1) and (-3, 5)

y = mx + b

m = (5 - 1)/(-3 - (-1)) = 4/(-2) = -2

y = -2x + b

1 = -2(-1) + b

1 = 2 + b

b = -1

y = -2x - 1
