1) Isolate the x

To isolate the x in (x-73) all you need to do is get rid of the 73 and add it onto other terms in the question that are similar

  • The term similar to -73 would be 67 so add them...
  • -73 + 67 = -6

2) Figure out x

Not that all you have are x's you would know that both of them have to be equal. Therefore you need to...

  • subtract 180 from -6 as it is the only number left 180 - (-6) = 186
  • As there are 2 x's you had to divide you answer by 2 186 ÷ 2 = 93

3) Check your answer

To check if your answer works you need to work your way backwards...

  • x is 93 so... 67 + 93 = 160
  • 93 - 73 = 20
  • 160 + 20 = 180
  • And it works!
