we want our equation to look like this

y=mx+b

Let's start by finding the slope

we can do that with the following equation


(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)


(-1-(-6))/(1-2)\\(5)/(-1)=-5

which means we have

y= -5x+b

we just need b now

we can solve that by plugging in a coordinate

we know that when x= 2 y= -6

so

-6= -5(2)+B

solve for b

-6= -10+b

4=b

Which means our equation is

y= -5x+4
