Luckily, y is already opposites, so it should be easier:

6x-8y=12

5x+8y=-1

Combine; This should end up with y eliminated -

11x = 11

x = 1

Now we can plug 1 in for x in one of the equations to find y. I'm going to use the second one.

5(1) +8y = -1

5+8y=-1

8y=-6

y=-6/8 (you can simplify)

The point at which the lines intersect is (1,-3/4)
