Getting Started

You must be signed on to an IBM i session to complete this assignment. You should complete this

assignment within one session, therefore you will only have one unique Job id for this assignment.

This assignment requires you to perform the steps below in order. For each step you will be

required to do activities. You will need to:

i. Create a document to list each step that requires an answer or requested

information. Screen prints may be included on this document.

ii. Create and attach output as requested for an activity.

Both the document and any output requested must be submitted in the Assignment #1 page in

BlackBoard. Make sure you include your IBM i user profile as part of the name of each file to

uniquely identify it.

Before You Begin

If you make any changes to your library list or user profile at any time during this

assignment. List the full commands you execute on your answer document and

describe exactly when the commands were executed (before/after a step).

STEP INSTRUCTIONS

1) Change the logging level for your current job using this command:

CHGJOB LOG(4 00 *SECLVL) LOGCLPGM(*YES)

2) It is always a good idea to check your library list before you begin. Using the command

that will display your Library list:

a) List the full command that will display your library list and create output.

b) Execute the command and attach the output from displaying your library list (not a

screen print).

3) Current job id.

a) List your current unique (qualified) job id.

b) Provide a screen print (cut/paste) or command output, proving this answer.

4) Create a new Library called BCIBnnLIB (where nn is the last 2 digits of your user profile

– substitute nn with these digits.)

a) List the full command you use to create your new library.

b) Display your new library BCIBnnLIB. List how many objects are in your library.

5) List and execute the full command that will:

a) Create a new Output Queue in your new library.

b) Create a new Job Queue in your new library.

6) Look at your updated library.

a) List and execute the full command to display your new library.

b) List how many objects are in your new library.

c) List the object types in your new library.

d) Execute the command to display your new library creating a spooled file. Attach the

output from displaying your Library list (not a screen print).

Object Authority

7) Check the authority given to the object you created in #4 above. Find a command that

will display the object authority for the library.

a) Execute this command and display the authorities of your library.

b) List the full command you used to display the authorities of your library

8) Find a command to edit the object authority on your library. Some commands you can

use include (WRKOBJ, EDTOBJAUT, GRTOBJAUT).

a) Give user MCAMPBELL *USE Authority of your new library, BCIBnnLIB.

b) List the command(s) or describe how you gave MCAMPBELL authority. Use screen

prints if necessary.

c) Display the current authorities of your new library creating a spooled file. Use a

command that will create output and attach the output.

Executing (running) a Program

9) There is a program named ASSIGN1 that can be found in the library BCIV1BA1. When

executed, this program will automatically send me a copy of your current job log from

the beginning of your session until now.

a) List the full command or commands that you will use to execute this program?

b) Execute the program.

c) You should receive at least one message on your screen and then your screen will

return to where you executed the program. List the last message displayed and

describe where this message appears on your screen.

10) You could look or print your current job log now. What is the command name you could

use?

11) Execute the SIGNOFF command with the value of *LIST for the Job log parameter, This

will create a job log of you full session when you signoff. You must sign back on to find

your job log. What information will you need to find your job log?
