Karen, Dan, and Carlos served a total of 89 orders on Monday at the school cafeteria. Dan served 4 times as many orders as Carlos. Karen served 7 fewer orders than Carlos. How many orders did they each serve?

Answer:

Carlos = 16

Dan = 64

Karen = 9

Explanation:

Let Carlos be x

Dan = 4x

Karen = x - 7

Their total is 89

Create an equation of Carlos + Dan + Karen = 89

x + 4x + x - 7 = 89

Combine like terms

6x - 7 = 89

Add 7 on both sides to get rid of 7

6x = 96

Isolate x by dividing by 6 on both sides

x = 16

Substitute the amount of orders each person served

Carlos = 16

Dan = 64

Karen = 9

Hope this helps :)

Have a great day!
