Many social workers today have come to realize that conventional approaches have had rather limited impact on social needs and problems at the grassroots. As a result, social workers now seek new ways roles to expand professional social work in order to deal more effectively with the problems of mass deprivation. This paper thus examined the need for innovative approaches to skills need by social workers in Nigeria. This study employed the descriptive research design of ex-post facto type, while purposive random sampling technique was adopted in selecting 303 respondents from rural and urban communities in Lagos State. A self-report innovative approach to skills need in community social work practice Questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents. Data collected were subjected to Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and T-test statistical analysis. The result indicated that there was a positive significant relationship between innovative approach to skills need and respondents' autonomy in community social work practices
