The Chief of Justice is the presiding officer-- the leader-- in the Court. Their main job is supervising the process of selecting the cases the Court will hear, the public sessions or hearings of cases, the discussions of the cases at a private conference, and the subsequent votes of the nine Justices (which includes the Chief of Justice) by assigning a Justice in the majority to write the judgement of the Court.
