Using elimination what is the answer for 6x+y=-39; 3x+2x=-15

x= -7

y= 3

Explanation:

6x+y= -39 -------(1)

3x+2y= -15 -------(2)

First, you start by choosing th one you want to eliminate(either x or y), but I chose to eliminate y. But there is a problem(the coefficients of the values of y are not the same). so we multiply the coefficients of y in (1) by the equation (2) and vice versa.

[6x+y= -39] ×2

[3x+2y= -15] ×1

12x+2y= -78 -----(3)

3x+2y= -15 -------(4)

Subtract 4 from 3

9x= -63

Divide both sides by 9

x= -7

Substitute the value of x in (1) or (2)

From (1),

6x+y= -39

6(-7)+ y= -39

-42+y= -39

y= -39+42

y=3
