In Unit 7 on mitosis, there were quite a few fascinating things. First, mitosis is the process of cell division that allows organisms to grow, repair, and replace damaged cells. It consists of four main stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. Second, during prophase, the chromosomes condense and become visible under a microscope. Third, in metaphase, the chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell. Fourth, during anaphase, the sister chromatids separate and move towards opposite ends of the cell. Finally, in telophase, the nuclear membrane reforms, and the chromosomes begin to unwind. These stages ensure that each new cell receives a complete set of genetic material.
