3/4x + 1/2 SHOULD BE "one half more than three fourths of a number"

3/4-1/2x is "three fourths minus one half of a number"

and 3/4-(x+1/2) should be three fourths minus the sum of a number and one-half.

(x is labeled as "a number", a sum is a term for the outcome of an addition problem. Words make the brain hurt, I get it.)
