The equation for the missing side is
\tan 41^(\circ) = (4)/(x), whose solution is x = 4.601.

How to find the measure of the missing side of right triangle

In this question we find the representation of a right triangle with one known side and a known angle, the known side is opposite to angle. The unknown side can be found by means of the following trigonometric function:

\tan \theta = (y)/(x)

Where:

  • θ - Angle, in degrees.
  • y - Length of the side opposite to angle.
  • x - Length of the side adjacent to angle.

If we know that y = 4 and θ = 41º, then the length of the side adjacent to angle:

\tan 41^(\circ) = (4)/(x)

x = (4)/(\tan 41^(\circ))

x = 4.601
