How to graph the absolute value inequality?

Here we have the absolute value inequality:

|2x + 4| > 8

First let's simplify the inequality. To do that, we need to break the absolute value part into two simpler ones:

(2x + 4) > 8

(2x + 4) < -8

Now solve these two:

2x + 4 > 8

2x > 8 - 4

2x > 4

x > 4/2

x > 2

The other:

2x + 4 < - 8

2x < -8 - 4

2x < -12

x < -12/2

x < -6

Then we have:

x < - 6 or x > 2
