square all the terms on both sides to get rid of the radicals:


1^(2) + (√(1-x) )^(2) = (√(2x+4)) ^(2)

exponent 2 and the radical cancel each other:

1 + 1 - x = 2x + 4

2 - x = 2x + 4

like terms on each side ( when you move one term tp the other side, it changes its sign ):

2-x = 2x+4

2-4 = +x +2x

-2 = 3x

now to keep the x alone, divide both sides by 3:

-2/3 = 3x/3

-2/3= x
