You have two unknown numbers.

Let’s call the first number ‘x’.
The second number is “6 times” more than (the first number) ‘x’.
—> 6 multiplied by ‘x’ = 6x
… thus your second number is ‘6x’.


They say that **both** numbers add to give 21.
—> Therefore you must form an equation.
(First number) + (second number) = 21
Therefore the equation is:
x + 6x = 21


Now solve it like any other maths equation:
7x = 21
(Divide both sides by 7)
x = 3

So we know ‘x’ which means we can work out both numbers now.
First number = x = 3
Second number = 6x = 6 (multiplied by) 3 = 18

So those are your two numbers —> 3, 18.
